This beautiful Samurai helmet is a smaller version of the real helmets used by the Japanese warriors. It consists in a "Genji-kabuto" dated from Kamakura Era (1185-1333) and composed of a Kashiradate with a dragon shape and 2 Kuwagata on each size of the helmet to impress his opponents.
This reproduction life will make an great impression with its meticulous details. The dragon on the helmet is made of wood.
The main part of the helmet is called "bashi", the straw which keep it on the head of its owner is named "agemaki". Moreover the part behind the helmet which protect the neck and the shoulders is called "shikoro".
The central ornament where the dragon and the Kuwagata are, is named "maedate", the wing-like protections on each side are meant to protect the face and they have the emblems of the family of the Samurai, they are called "fukigaeshi". Finally, the visor on top of the face which strengthen the protection is named "mabisashi"
In Japan this is a tradition to install at home a samurai helmet for the children's day, or Kodomo no hi, every May 5th. "Gogatsu-Ningyou" (May's figurines) give strength, happiness and health to the children.
